Our reaction discovery programmes are based on an exploration of new reactivity but are focused towards making molecules that we think will have interesting properties that can advance other fields. In many cases the molecules that we make are novel and so exploring their properties can lead to interesting reaction profiles and desirable molecular properties that open up avenues in other fields. We are also interested in developing new synthetic strategies that can enable research in other disciplines and are always happy to talk to other people about their molecular targets.
Enabling methodology
New starting points for drug discovery
Our reaction discovery programmes have provided routes into molecules with desirable drug-like physicochemical properties including high sp3 and 3D character. Our approaches are modular in design so that they can be used to access scaffolds with the structural and functional group variety needed to obtain molecular diversity. We have been developing chemistry that allows synthesis of compound libraries. Those libraries have been entered into biological screening programmes here in Birmingham and elsewhere and can be made available for other to access.
